New Course Offering: Learning Beyond Borders

The Chinese Academy is offering a new course over the 2013-2014 school year called Learning Beyond Borders (LBB). LBB is an exciting opportunity for students to learn and develop the following three areas of focus. Students will have the opportunity to:

 ·        Learn about Chinese culture through language instruction, art, martial arts and music

·        Engage in project-based learning activities around topics of their choice related to health and wellness, anti-bullying,

       positive relationships, and/or environmental issues

·        Develop knowledge and skills in literacy, math and science

This course is designed for students with little or no previous exposure to Chinese culture and is taught primarily in English. Throughout the course, students will use technology to enhance and support their learning, connect with others, and share their insights. Leadership and personal development are key goals of the LBB program.

This course is partially funded through a Government of Alberta grant and includes provisions for students who require financial assistance. All students are welcome to enroll. Please see us if you have further questions.

Government of Alberta Culture and Community Spirit

The Chinese Academy is proud to be one of the grant recipients of the Government of Alberta’s Community Spirit Donation Grant Program 2010-2011

What is the Donation Grant Program?

It is about giving back to the community, and helping make it vibrant and strong!

The Community Spirit Donation Grant Program provides an opportunity for non-profit and charitable organizations such as ours to receive a donation grant based on total eligible cash donations from individuals that have been received over a 12-month period. Once this takes place, we would then submit an application for a grant.

The provincial government issues a donation grant to help support our operations, programs or capital projects. The Chinese Academy is most grateful for the funds made possible by the grant and for all the community support we have received over the years. The Grant will be used for scholarships, bursaries and the operation of our school.

If you would like to donate to The Chinese Academy, please call The Chinese Academy's office at 403-777-7663 or send a cheque payable to “The Chinese Academy” at 6620 – 4 St N.W. Calgary Alberta T2K 1C2. A tax deductible receipt will be issued for donations of $20 or more.
